JLDBD Child Abuse or Neglect
POLICY ON CHILD ABUSE OR NEGLECT
"Abuse" or "Neglect" means a threat to a child's health or welfare by physical, mental, or emotional injury or impairment, sexual abuse or exploitation, deprivation of essential needs or lack of protection from these, by a person responsible for the child.
- Any employee of the Veazie School Department, including teachers, administrators, guidance personnel, nurses and educational support staff, who knows or has reasonable cause to suspect that a child has been, or is likely to be abused or neglected shall immediately report or cause a report to be made to the Department of Human Services. If the abuse or neglect is the result of the actions of a person not responsible for the child--i.e., non-parent, the employee shall report or cause a report to be made to the Penobscot County District Attorney's Office immediately following communication with the Department of Human Services.
- The reporting employee is expected to notify his/her supervisor or building administrator.
