Veazie Community School will be closed today due to the dangerous forecasted weather conditions.
We are happy to announce our partnership with Northern Light Acadia Hospital.
Being a teenager can be tough. Being the parent of a teenager can be even tougher.
Veazie Community School will be hosting an Acadia Cares parent forum on Thursday, February 13 from 4:30 - 6:00p.m. in the VCS library. Acadia Cares staff will cover the following topics: Youth Suicide Prevention, Bullying, Eating Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, LGBTQ+ Youth, Youth Substance Use, and Resiliency. Attending parents will help to guide discussion.
This parent forum is sensitive in nature, and for that reason, is for parents only. Please contact us ahead if you need assistance with child care. Light refreshments will be provided courtesy of VCS.
Please contact VCS School Counselor Lexie Dineen (ldineen@veaziecs.org), or VCS Principal Matthew Cyr (mcyr@veaziecs.org) if you have further questions.

Congratulations to the Veazie Boys Basketball team on winning the Mid-Maine League Championship! Our girls team finished runners-up. Another successful Viking sports season!

In honor of World Read Aloud Day sixth graders read a Robert Munsch book to First Grade today.

Over 2200 books have been signed out this school year from the VCS library! Graphic novels, LEGO books, new fictional series, cookbooks, picture books about dinosaurs playing sports, and nonfiction titles about mindfulness are some of our most popular recent checkouts. In the past three years, our library collection has completely flipped. We often weed through the stacks, identifying what is no longer circulating and then research the latest and greatest as well as survey students and staff for their requests. We’ve been able to place multiple orders throughout the school year, staying current with our student’s interests. Through book talks, facing books out as you would see at a bookstore, teaching students how to independently look for a book on the online catalog, rotating displays, and providing comfortable seating options for students to get lost in a book, we will always continue to cultivate a love of reading amongst our VCS students.

Veazie Community School was recently named a Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse School! Thank you to all students, staff and members of our community for the continued support.

Below is a priority notice we have received from the Department of Education:
"We have been contacted by the Penobscot County Dispatch Center, on behalf of Orono Police Department, that a Maine business has received an email threat, with specific schools identified as targets. These schools have been contacted directly, and all local police departments have been notified. The situation is being investigated.
As a precaution, we have been asked to advise all Maine schools to increase situational awareness, and report any suspicious activity or persons to local law enforcement. Please advise bus drivers to also increase their awareness and report immediately any suspicious or aggressive behavior of other vehicles.
We will share information as it becomes available. Please utilize your School Safety Plans and coordinate your communications and efforts with local law enforcement."
Districts across Maine have received this notification. Everyone is ok. However, out of an abundance of caution Veazie Community School will take the following actions.
Students and staff can move about the inside of the school as they normally would, but there is no outdoor recess, or outdoor activities. Students are with their teachers and following their normal schedule. All after school programs have been canceled.
We are working with the Veazie Police Department. Also, State Police are leading the effort to investigate the threat and coordinate actions on a state-wide level.
I have been notified that Veazie Community School WAS NOT named in the list of schools.
Sincerely,
Matthew Cyr, Superintendent & Principal
Mark your calendars!
