An Important Message to VCS Parents: I want to take a moment to recognize the Veazie Community School Staff and Students for their response to today's lockdown situation. Today was a perfect school crisis scenario with a perfect outcome. As a school we were faced with every challenging variable one could imagine--there was still 5 minutes remaining of our scheduled arrival time, there were a handful of late arriving students and we were responding with a limited amount of information from public safety (too little to attempt to reach out to parents in fear of causing more harm than good). Throughout all of this situation, everyone was safe. We practice school crisis drills for a reason. The entire VCS family stepped up today and demonstrated great respect, maturity, and support for one another. I am extremely proud of our staff and students for their behaviors during this difficult and stressful situation. Part of our crisis plan involves debriefing. We met as a staff after school today to discuss what went well, as well as ways we can improve. This process also includes further conversation with local public safety officials. I encourage you to discuss the importance of school safety with your children as you deem appropriate. Please do not hesitate to contact myself, your child's teacher, or our school counselor should you or your child need further support. Thank you. Matthew Cyr VCS Superintendent & Principal

VCS was notified this morning of potential threats made to a neighboring school. We immediately went into a lockdown and accounted for all staff and students. We have since been notified that there is no real threat. We have cleared the lockdown and are running a normal schedule. All staff and students are safe.

The mall show is over, but with that comes good news! We had a silver and a gold star award for student artwork. Silver star is an honorable mention. Gold star means that that student’s work moves on to be featured at the University of Maine Museum of Art in downtown Bangor in April. SILVER STAR: Rebekah Jaksa, Grade 8: binocular scene in acrylic paint GOLD STAR: Lily Chandler, Grade 7: sailboat scene in acrylic paint
